Z ora got dressed and waited in the living room for the rest of her team to arrive. She’d called them on the house phone as soon as she’d finished her shower. Thank goodness it was a private line, so the press hadn’t gotten hold of it yet. Otherwise she would have had to disconnect it, and then she wouldn’t have any way to contact them. Marcus was in the kitchen putting away the groceries, and Dave had said he was on his way back. Silas had indicated he would dial in via conference call. Zora had also called Christina, and she’d confirmed she was already at the airport.

The doorbell chimed. and Zora checked the security camera. It was Christina. She pressed the door release button, and Christina bounced in, her fiery red hair in a ponytail swinging behind her.

“Zora!” she cried out and dropped her bags before pulling Zora into a hug.

Tears came to Zora’s eyes and she hugged her back. “I’ve missed you,” she said.

“I didn’t know,” Christina said. “You should have asked Marcus or Dave to call me. I heard about it on the news and took the next flight in. I’m so sorry for not being here for you.”

“But you’re here now. That’s the most important thing. And it’s not your fault, young lady. Come, let’s sit.” Zora led her to the sofa.

Christina leaned back on it. “What’s with the hunks outside?”

Zora chuckled. “My new security team.” She wagged a finger at Christina. “And you are not allowed to flirt with them.”

“Hey, what do you take me for?” Christina said in mock annoyance. “So how are you?” she asked, her eyes searching Zora’s face. “You’ve lost some weight.”

“I’m fine,” Zora reassured her with a smile. “How is your mom?”

“She’s good. And don’t worry, she is going on a cruise with her best friend. ”

“I’m glad to hear she’s doing okay.”

“So, what can I do to help?” Christina asked.

“Let’s wait for the others to come in, and then we can talk about it.”

“Okay. Let me put away my bags in the meantime. Where am I going to sleep? Because I’m definitely staying with you. I’m not going to let you out of my sight,” Christina said.

Zora chuckled. “I’ll show you the bedroom next to mine.”

Christina shook her head. “Not good enough. We’re going to stay in the same room where I can see you. Don’t worry, it will be like old times, us girls together.”

Zora hugged her again. “I’m glad you’re here.”

Christina hugged her back. “What are best friends for?” Then she pulled away. “So, where is the bedroom?”

“It’s the last one on the left when you climb up the stairs to the second floor.”

“Awesome. I’ll be right back.” She got up, grabbed her bags, and headed up the stairs.

Zora leaned back. She was feeling better already. Christina had been her best friend since high school, and they’ve been roommates for the past few years. She’d stayed with her mom for a while after the kidnapping ordeal she suffered with Zora.
